The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) administers the National Defence Academy (NDA) examination on a national basis twice a year. The purpose of the exam is to recruit people for the Air Force, Navy, and Army. It is a two-tier entrance exam; students must pass both the written and the SSB interview rounds in order to advance. Those who pass the qualifying exam and are chosen for further study undergo three years of intense training. Character development, physical and mental toughness, leadership, and an acute sense of observation are prioritised in NDA in order to effectively lead troops in combat.
